Cost of dockage in Pensacola

Postby S/V Faith » Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:54 pm

Hope this is the right place for this,

I have admittedly been spoiled with the cheap dockage in rural NC for the last 5-6 years. I would like to know what people have found as far as prices in the Pensacola area. The survey I did last year turned up $10 per foot a month as a common number :!:

Where should I look? What are people paying? (I have a home, so do not need a liveaboard slip which I understand are very hard to come by).

Thanks in advance, we are anchored just north of Sarrasota and hope to be home in a couple of weeks.

Hello,

I am a fellow Pearson owner here in Pensacola. My wife and I just did almost the same trip you are in the middle of. We sailed our Pearson 367 from Charleston SC last May. Great trip! So here is what you can expect as far as marina costs go around here.

Palafox pier- New, and nice downtown location. $12 per foot + electricity. Deep water. Virtually unprotected from major storms.

Seville Quarter- $10 per foot ( I think). But a long waiting list.

Yacht Harbor- $9 per foot- electricity included. Pretty basic amenities. Not many deep water slips. A little better protection in the bayou, but not very robust.

Pensacola Shipyard- $10 per foot- nice concrete floating docks, but more of a shipyard feel. Not very pretty. Deep water, and probably the most protected. (that's were I am moored)

Browns shipyard and marina- No power, no water. Not much deep water. cheap. I guess its a little better than anchoring in the bayou.

There are others, but finding one that will have deep water would be difficult.

After spending the past 9 months at PSMC, I'm seriously thinking about moving the boat to palafox. Its more expensive, but I think it might be worth it. I would be happier having a nicer place to have the boat, with clean water. The water in the bayou can be pretty nasty.

Thanks for the help, Ben I really appreciate your taking the time to research / post this.

I have to say that
Month to Month - $16.50/ft
1 year agreement - $12.50/ft (must carry insurance on your vessel and name the marina as a beneficiary).

This seems absurd to me.

Looks like the Swamp House Marina at $5 per foot per month is the winner... although if your much ofer 25' Smith's fish camp is a pretty good deal at the flat $150 with power and water included....

From a member on PearsonAriel.org;

Pensecola marinas
I would like to bring my Ariel down to Pensecola this winter to cruise. MInnesota winters are long and I need to sail in the winter because I work on boats all the rest of the year and never get to go sailing. Can you recommend places that are reasonable in their rates and let you do some of your own work? Thanks Doug McEneany Duluth Mn

Anyone know of any affordable marinas that may have been missed on this list?

Thanks,

Hmm. I can't think of any not already on the list. Reasonable Rates and Marina just don't go together in Pensacola. :)

I will say that I love our marina. We are currently at Palm Harbor and though it is a little pricier than some of the other marinas, it is worth it in my opinion. We pay $10.75/month per foot, plus tax/electric. The marina has free ice, dock box for every slip, wifi, cable, and the docks are floating. The slip holders there are great and very sociable. We have met a number of friends, both sailors and powerboaters, since moving to Palm Harbor.
